My Flight To East Brunswick And First Impressions
After some minor delays at the airport I touched down in EB on Tuesday night. The sneezing and hacking was minimal on the planes so I should be okay. Although, between the airports and the planes, I’m a bit concerned about being exposed to 10,000 radiation producing wifi devices! Do people really need laptops, tablets and cellphones all going at the same time?
There was an Orwellian/ zombie like feel to row after row of people mesmerized by their multiple screens… It only really started to agitate me when the flight attendant called for everyone to turn everything off and I noticed a few people not do so. Because you know, whatever article they were reading or email they were working was more important than safety. They did finally turn them off.
I flew Southwest, which is noted for having bigger seats and more legroom than United, Delta and other airlines, but still felt pretty cramped. Without a laptop of tablet to hypnotize me into zombieland, I relaxed with my tiny mind, meditated, and caught up on a little sleep.
On the way into town, the first EB landmark I saw was… drumroll please… A Hooters! Okay, then. It brought back some good memories of my college days, I thought this will be fun! Lol
On my first full day in EB, I drove around and took in the beautiful greenery of the Garden State and did some location scouting and met some of the people I will be meeting for the show. Everyone is very excited. The enthusiasm for what they do and the Township of EB was palpable and infectious.
When not touring EB, I got to work in a little baby sitting for a friend’s six year old daughter. “Don’t worry Jeff”, I was told, “She’ll mostly stay in her room”. No problem I say. So after relaxing for a few minutes and trying to catch up on some sports, I get a little visitor! So much for catching up on sports! We watched a little Hocus Pocus, I cut up some snacks for her to eat, and tried to keep her from making a mess and playing around with my stuff. And of course her parents were caught in traffic! She had a lot of laughs, it was a lot of fun for both of us but I’d be lying if I didn’t say there was not a little relief when her parents came through the door!
The day ended on a high note with a good production/prep meeting for the show and the New York Yankees winning game five against the Cleveland Indians! Go Bombers!
